What a great article on Slate! I howled with laughter about your experience with topology as it was the same one I had in business school with statistics. I, too, know what it’s like to throw myself at the mercy of my professor. Being a girl, I even cried. Alas, it didn’t work. It couldn’t hurt, right? The good news is that I passed all my heavy quantitative courses and graduated with my MBA. I’ll never be one of those people who can right trading algorithms for Goldman Sachs but I can do everything else. Math is very important – it’s worth the struggle!
Thanks for reading! Glad you made it through. I’m thankful that my students aren’t driven to crying too often. (I’d be a total sucker for tears, calculated or uncalculated.)
